About You and Your Business

You gain new leads from your business website but you don’t run ecommerce (i.e. WooCommerce) or membership plugins and you don’t require more than 5GB of storage.

Security is extremely important to you. You want any malicious activity to be monitored and blocked. If malware is discovered, you’d like it to be removed before it causes issues with your site, search engine ranking, or loss of customer trust. If your website is running any vulnerable software (outdated WordPress version or insecure plugins), you’d like to be made aware as soon as possible to take any appropriate action.

Why should I trust Watchdog Studio with my website hosting?

Our primary goal, the reason we offer the services we do, is to take the frustration out of EVERYTHING related to running your website. If we’re not doing exactly that, you can let Justin Korn, our founder and Head Watchdog, know directly and he’ll work with you to come up with a solution. If, at the end of the day, you are not getting value from our services, you are free to move on, no harm no foul. But, we hope it doesn’t come to that.

  • We watchover and care for each client site as if it were our own
  • We’ll keep you in the loop and up-to-date, but never burden you with more information than you need.
  • We’ll make sure you understand our answers when you reach out to us for questions, concerns, and support.

How do I get support when I need it?

Support is provided by email.

At this time, we are not big enough to efficiently provide live chat or phone support for either of our hosting options. If you require either, we totally understand and would recommend either Kinsta or WP Engine for reliable WordPress hosting.

If you decide to move forward with another hosting provider, we can still provide you support and watch over the health and security of your website with one of our website management options.

What type of response times should I expect from support?

In general, during business hours, you should expect to get an initial response within 2 hours for general questions, and for low/medium tiered issues.

Our Business Hosting solution is supported by our team of WordPress engineers and comes with an initial response time, 24/7, of 2 hours for any high level issue and 15 minutes for critical level issues.

With our Secure Hosting solution, there are some limitations to support. In short, Justin, our Head Watchdog runs and maintains the Secure Hosting solution setup. Support hours are generally Monday – Friday, 9am – 4pm Pacific Time. That said, there are times when Justin is not available or will take a vacation. Rest assure, proceedures will be in place to ensure all systems continue to run smoothly, however, support tickets will likely be delayed. 

If you need to be sure someone is always available to you, opt for our Business Hosting. You won’t be disappointed.

What do you mean by “unmetered” visitors or bandwidth?

Most (if not all) of the big name hosting companies put arbitrary limits on the number of visitors or how much network data (bandwidth) can be utilized by your account over a billable month. The most common reason for doing this is to create tiers and force websites with more traffic to pay more – the assumption being, those websites are generating more business and can afford to pay more. However, the direct cost of hosting a website on a server that has 5k visitors every month vs a website, on the same server, that has 100k visitors every month is negligible.

Because of this, we’ve decided not to bill our clients based on these metrics. Instead, we’ve built out our servers and structure in a way that allows us to expand as necessary as we bring on more clients rather than based on each individual client.

What happens if my website gets hacked?

We clean it up!

When a hack is detected by our scanners, our system will attempt to automatically clean the infection and notify us if any issues with the removal are detected.

Can I migrate my website to your hosting if my existing website is currently hacked?

If y0u know your site is infected with malware, before signing up for our hosting, you’ll need to either sign up for a Website Management plan which, once you are signed up, can handle the clean up of your website. Alternativly, we can clean your site with a Security Audit

After we determine your website is clean, you can move forward with adding our hosting to your subscription and we can get your website migrated over to our servers.

What is considered a vulnerability when you perform a "vulnerability check"?

Our checks utilize the WPScan API to check if anything being used to run your website has a currently known security vulnerability.

If something is found, we send you an alert letting you know exactly what is affected with a link to more details so you can take the appropriate actions.

Where are the backups of my website stored?

We store backups in a few different places. Generally, we have backups stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or Wasabi storage.

Can I host a non-WordPress website with you?

Our stack and engineers are 100% focused on WordPress, so you’ll get the most “bang for your buck” when hosting your WordPress website with us.

That said, we can handle non-WordPress based sites with our Business Hosting solution if needed.

Why is your hosting better than [name another hosting provider]?

Almost all of the hosting providers out there are providing the same thing: support, backups, security, etc. etc. etc. To most, each customer is a number appeasing the bottom line, to stockholders, whatever.

Our customers are not “just” another customer. Each one helps us keep our family fed, the lights on and the mortgage paid. Because of this, we care deeply about each of them and will address any issues as if it were an issue with our own website.

We’re small and nimble, but have the resources in place to keep the lights on if a disaster were to happen (aka Justin, gets hit by a bus, or wins the lottery), so we can operate like the big boys.

Beyond that, it gets a bit technical, but you asked.

The larger companies find ways to restrict and limit their accounts based on arbitrary details in order to push customers to the next tier. It might be limiting the number of PHP workers, the amount of bandwidth or visitors an account can have in a given month, if you wear white tennis shoes, etc. We don’t do any of that.

For our Business Hosting clients, we run large servers with maximum PHP single thread performance. Because we run such large servers (16 cores or greater, and 64GB of memory or more), we have the overhead available when our customers’ websites need it. This works out to be way more performant than having several smaller servers. We used to think that having several smaller servers was better, but it doesn’t work out. Yes, this means your website will likely share the same server with more websites in the end. But, we’ve been doing this for awhile and having smaller servers with less sites on each is not going to perform as well as a large server.

Additionally, on our Business Hosting option, we’re running LiteSpeed Enterprise (LSE). Most of the Managed WordPress hosting providers still currently use NGINX to run their web servers and those that have started offering LiteSpeed are generally running Open LightSpeed (OLS). LiteSpeed, either Open LightSpeed (OLS) or LSE, has been documented to be more performant than NGINX and Apache and LSE has a ton more features over OLS, particularly around caching and optimization.

Do you offer discounts if I have more than one website?

No, sorry.

Each hosting plan covers one website. If you have more than one website, you will need to add a plan for each website you need hosted.

Can I cancel anytime?

Absolutely.

If your tail is not wagging 100 mph because you are not happy with the service we are providing you, we don’t want you to be forced to stick around. We hope you will reach out and express your frustration, concerns or issues first so we can try to fix it and make it right, but you are welcome to cancel your subscription at any time.

Please be sure to reach out to us BEFORE canceling so we can work with you to migrate your website to a new provider if needed. We are happy to help you find your website a new home while you are a customer. Once you officially cancel your account, it will become much more difficult to assist you and get your website migrated to a new host.
